Abstract

This article reports on a concept-mapping study conducted with heterosexual Black men (HBM) across four Ontario cities to identify effective HIV prevention strategies based on their lived experiences. Engaging 60 participants, the study generated and analyzed 123 strategy statements grouped into seven thematic clusters: sexual health awareness strategies, sex/HIV education, policy interventions, addressing racism, healthcare/research/economic opportunities, individual and family interventions, and individual and community empowerment. Among these, individual and family interventions, policy interventions, and addressing anti-Black racism emerged as the top three priorities, rated highest in importance and feasibility for reducing HIV vulnerabilities and promoting resilience in Black communities. The findings emphasize intergenerational dialogues within families, inclusive policy support for people living with HIV, and systemic anti-racism measures as critical components of a best practices framework to address HIV disparities affecting heterosexual Black men in Ontario.
