Abstract

The article focuses on Tanja Maljartschuk's novel *Forgottenness*, which explores the theme of intergenerational trauma through the lens of Ukrainian history. The narrative intertwines the experiences of a young woman and the historical figure Viacheslav Lypynskyi, highlighting how memories of past atrocities, such as the Holodomor, manifest in the lives of descendants. The protagonist's compulsive behaviors and her grandmother's traumatic past illustrate the concept of "zombie history," where the past continues to haunt the present. The novel serves as a reflection on memory, identity, and the struggle against forgetting, emphasizing the importance of recording history to honor those who endured suffering.
