Abstract

The article examines how white identitarian traditionalist women, known as "tradwives," use gendered and sexualized language in their blogs to reframe white nationalism within the discourse of sexual politics. Focusing on two Southern U.S. tradwives—Becky Dillingham ("Dissident Mama") and Lacey Lauren Clark ("Lacey Lynn")—the study analyzes their portrayal of an enemy characterized as "societal sodomizers" (e.g., LGBTQ+ activists and cultural Marxists) threatening the white family and nation. These women perform an idealized, submissive femininity that symbolizes and defends a threatened white nation, blending nostalgic images of mid-20th-century domesticity with far-right racial and homophobic ideologies. The article also contrasts this with leftist Southern feminist and queer activists who recontextualize traditional femininity to support racial justice and LGBTQ+ rights, offering alternative, subversive models of womanhood beyond nationalist frameworks.
