Abstract
New York has decriminalized adultery after more than a century, with Governor Kathy Hochul signing a bill repealing the law that made it punishable by up to three months in prison. The law had been in place since 1907 but was rarely enforced, with only 13 people charged since 1972. The decision reflects a shift towards handling complex relationship matters outside of the criminal justice system. [Extracted from the article]
