Abstract
Researchers have discovered a significant increase in the number of Nazca geoglyphs in the Nazca Desert of southern Peru, with around 430 known figurative geoglyphs identified. A recent study led by archaeologist Masato Sakai and computer scientist Marcus Freitag used artificial intelligence to uncover 303 previously unknown geoglyphs in a single field season. These newly discovered geoglyphs, which are smaller and depict people or domesticated animals, suggest that they may have been created by smaller groups or individuals, in contrast to the larger, more iconic geoglyphs believed to have been made by entire communities.
