Abstract

This article focuses on research examining responses to the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) among individuals who attempted suicide within 30 days prior to pretrial jail detention. The study, conducted as part of the Suicide Prevention Intervention for at-Risk Individuals in Transition (SPIRIT) trial at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, analyzed data from 800 detainees endorsing suicidal ideation or recent suicide attempts. Findings indicate that most individuals who attempted suicide reported active suicidal ideation with some intent but without a specific plan, highlighting the often unplanned nature of suicide attempts in this population. The research underscores the importance of assessing suicide risk beyond the presence of detailed plans and is supported by the National Institute of Mental Health. [Extracted from the article]
