Abstract

The article focuses on the preliminary findings from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) regarding a March collision at New York's LaGuardia Airport between an Air Canada Express jet operated by Jazz Aviation LP and a fire truck. The fire truck, responding to an emergency on a United Airlines flight, was cleared by air traffic control to cross an active runway where the Air Canada jet was landing, despite runway entrance lights signaling the runway was in use until about three seconds before the collision. The incident resulted in the deaths of both pilots on the Air Canada plane. The report highlights communication confusion between air traffic control and the fire truck operators, including a controller admitting error after the accident. [Extracted from the article]
