Abstract

The article focuses on the revitalization of family learning and literacy programs by the Adult Literacy Service in Tallaght, Dublin, following significant challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, staff retirements, and facility damage. Family learning initiatives aim to engage parents in supportive, inclusive educational environments to enhance their ability to assist their children's schooling and address intergenerational educational disadvantage. In early 2024, the service collaborated with Esker Educate Together National School to deliver a multicultural family learning program centered on food and cooking, culminating in the creation of a community cookbook funded by the Adult Literacy for Life (ALL) strategy. This project exemplifies the benefits of partnership and learner-centered approaches in family literacy, with plans to expand diverse family learning opportunities in the future.
