Abstract

The article discusses recent significant rulings and actions by the U.S. Supreme Court and federal courts, focusing on issues such as birthright citizenship, First Amendment rights, employment discrimination, executive power, and healthcare privacy. In Trump v. CASA, the Supreme Court stayed nationwide injunctions against an executive order limiting birthright citizenship, suggesting class actions as a potential alternative. The Court upheld government restrictions on TikTok and age-verification laws for adult content websites, emphasizing concerns over data collection and minors' access to obscene material. Additionally, the Court clarified that plaintiffs in reverse discrimination cases do not face a higher evidentiary standard under Title VII. The article also highlights the impact of executive orders by President Trump that led to mass federal layoffs, which were initially stayed by lower courts but later allowed to proceed by the Supreme Court. Lastly, the Court's decision in United States v. Skrmetti upheld a Tennessee law restricting sex transition treatment for minors, while a Texas court struck down a Biden administration rule enhancing privacy for reproductive healthcare information.
