Abstract

An editorial is presented on a new framework that provides formal guidance on how to effectively evaluate submissions in the peer review process. lt discusses the importance of constructive peer reviews in advancing academic progress within marketing highlighting the need for a structured, teachable approach to reviewing, moving beyond flaw-finding and focusing on offering actionable, developmental feedback. The author introduces the EMPATHY framework, a seven-stage model designed to guide reviewers in providing more constructive and collaborative feedback. The author calls for a cultural shift in how peer reviewing is valued, encouraging scholars to embrace constructive reviewing to enhance the quality of research and accelerate the progress of the marketing discipline.
