Abstract
This article focuses on the 2025 Franz Edelman Award competition, which recognizes outstanding achievements in advanced analytics, operations research (OR), and management science (MS) applied to real-world problems. The six finalist teams, representing organizations from the United States, Germany, China, and India, demonstrated impactful applications across diverse domains including Olympic cycling strategy, fulfillment network design at Amazon, supply chain optimization at Flipkart, airline schedule recovery at Lufthansa Group, logistics planning at SF Express, and dynamic route optimization at WM, North America’s largest recycling provider. The competition involves a rigorous verification and selection process to ensure that finalists’ implemented work delivers significant, measurable benefits such as cost savings, operational efficiencies, and environmental impact reductions. The article also highlights the competition’s role in advancing the integration of OR and analytics into organizational strategy and practice.
