Abstract
The article focuses on the arrest of Pong Yat-ming, founder of the independent Hong Kong bookstore Book Punch, and three employees for allegedly selling "seditious" publications under the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance. Among the seized materials was *The Troublemaker*, a 2024 biography of jailed media tycoon Jimmy Lai by Mark Clifford, president of the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong Foundation. The ordinance, enacted in 2024, criminalizes the sale of publications with seditious intent, carrying penalties up to 10 years in prison if linked to external collusion. Lai, founder of the now-defunct Apple Daily, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for collusion and sedition under a national security law imposed by Beijing in 2020. The arrests have drawn criticism from Lai’s supporters and international figures advocating for his release. [Extracted from the article]
