Abstract

This article examines the experiences of eighteen Palestinian Arab social workers in Israel, members of the third generation of the Nakba—a term meaning "catastrophe" in Arabic referring to the 1948 displacement and dispossession of Palestinians. Through qualitative interviews, the study identifies four main themes: ongoing intergenerational pain, a persistent struggle for justice despite personal and collective marginalization, the contrast between the recognized Holocaust narrative and the suppressed Nakba narrative under Israel's Nakba Law, and resilience or growth among some social workers from socially and economically established families. The findings highlight the need for safe spaces to discuss the Nakba, inclusion of its history in social work education, and advocacy for repealing the Nakba Law, with implications for social workers supporting silenced minority communities globally.
