Abstract

The article focuses on the challenges faced by the "sandwich generation," adults simultaneously caring for aging parents and children, who constitute 23%–29% of the American workforce and are expected to grow as the population ages. It highlights the significant mental, physical, and financial strains on these caregivers, including increased risks of burnout, depression, and chronic health conditions, which also impact workplace productivity and retention. The article emphasizes the importance of organizational support through flexible work arrangements, financial benefits, specialized leave policies, and emotional support programs such as employee resource groups. It concludes that employers who proactively address the needs of sandwich generation employees can improve both employee well-being and business outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
