Abstract

A process, View of Consensus, with accompanying worksheet, has evolved in my consulting practice from Kurt Lewin's theory of force field analysis. I incorporated additional OD theory and interventions as complementary to force field analysis, including action learning, dialogue, process consultation, team development, and leadership development. In this article I survey how this process, facilitated using a worksheet tool, has evolved from Lewin's force field analysis, applying an action research model (French and Bell, 1999; Cummings & Worley, 2005; Rothwell & Sullivan, 2005; Van Lente, 1999). The method has been successfully applied across diverse organizational changes and contexts. The results have included teams reaching consensus in solving a set of problems and/or makingcomplex decisions, often followed by taking most or all of the change actions decided upon.
