Abstract

This article explores the fundraising efforts of Irish Catholic priests in the United States during the 19th century. The priests employed various strategies, such as targeting specific neighborhoods and utilizing public spaces, to raise money for building projects in Ireland. While house-to-house collecting was often difficult, the priests' efforts were highly regarded and seen as crucial to the construction of church buildings. The article also delves into the emotional narratives surrounding sacred spaces and the transnational nature of the Irish Catholic Church. [Extracted from the article]
