Abstract
This article investigates the combined effects of ergonomic factors—specifically work posture (standing, sitting, sit-stand) and work shifts (A, B, C shifts)—on the work performance and cognitive functions of visual inspection workers in the automotive manufacturing industry. Using an experimental design with ten contract employees, work performance was assessed through an error study measuring inspection accuracy, while cognitive function was evaluated via the Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST), a neuropsychological tool requiring attention and psychomotor speed. Results indicate that posture and work shift individually and interactively have significant impacts on both work performance and cognitive function, with the sit-stand posture combined with the A shift yielding optimal outcomes. The study highlights the DSST’s suitability for assessing cognitive function in industrial settings and suggests that integrated ergonomic interventions can enhance productivity among visual inspectors in automotive manufacturing.
