Abstract

The article discusses research conducted at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland, focusing on the concept of relational depth (RD) in the context of spiritual direction and its associations with spiritual growth and authenticity. The study involved 40 dyads of spiritual directors and directees, revealing that while directees' experiences of RD were negatively associated with their spiritual growth, they positively correlated with the spiritual growth of directors. Additionally, the findings indicated that RD in younger directors may enhance a directee's authenticity. The research suggests that the dynamics of RD in spiritual direction differ from those in psychotherapy, highlighting the need for further longitudinal studies to explore these relationships.
