Abstract

The U.S. National Science Foundation has decided to remove questions about sexual orientation and gender identity from its Survey of Earned Doctorates, reverting to a binary gender option of male or female. This change, prompted by executive orders from President Donald Trump, has disappointed many scientists who saw the addition of these questions as a step towards better inclusion of gender and sexual minorities in STEM fields. Despite the setback, advocates are hopeful that these questions will be reinstated in the future to ensure LGBTQ scientists are accurately represented in federal data. [Extracted from the article]
