Abstract
Adivasis are the indigenous people of India, who are classified as Scheduled Tribes by the Indian state, and who traditionally live in forests and out of the fold of the Hindu caste system. Yet, Choksi, reviewing the political-science literature, suggests that the formation of Jharkhand and in fact the very idea of Jharkhand had been a failure because it embraced a politics of recognition over a politics of redistribution (pp. 15-16).
