Abstract
The article focuses on recent developments in fiber optic internet infrastructure and broadband expansion across the United States. Adtran, a communications equipment company, is expanding its manufacturing capabilities in Alabama, emphasizing workforce diversity and supporting local education programs, aligning with the U.S. government’s Investing in America agenda to strengthen domestic supply chains. Ting Internet has launched 2-gigabit symmetrical fiber internet in Colorado Springs, including free service for qualifying residents under the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), leveraging a city-wide fiber network owned by Colorado Springs Utilities. Nextlink Internet, in partnership with Tarana Technologies, has deployed a hybrid fiber and fixed wireless network in Wise County, Texas, providing up to 500 Mbps broadband to 65,000 residents, funded partly by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) resources. Additionally, Butler Electric Cooperative in Kansas has contracted Conexon to build a $21 million fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network, partially funded by a state grant, to serve approximately 4,300 rural residents through its Velocity broadband division.
