Abstract
The article focuses on Rich Schnell’s creation of the Lake Champlain Stone Garden in Port Douglas, New York, developed during the COVID-19 pandemic as a small-scale Zen-inspired garden featuring rocks, bridges, and traditional elements like a teahouse and stone lanterns. Schnell integrated haiku poetry into the garden by collaborating with poets who contributed verses linked to specific garden features, displayed on metal plaques consistent with local Adirondack Park signage. The teahouse serves as a meditation and poetry pavilion modeled after historical Asian influences, and the garden was dedicated to Schnell’s late friend Vince Tripi, reflecting connections to Taoist philosophy and natural contemplation.
