Abstract

This article focuses on the longitudinal measurement invariance (LMI) of the Model Minority Stereotype-Response Scale (MMS-RS), a tool designed to assess Asian American STEM students' psychological responses to the Model Minority Stereotype (MMS). The MMS-RS includes two subscales: Negative Response to Stress (NRS) and Positive Response and Endorsement (PRE), which measure negative and positive reactions to the MMS, respectively. Using data from 188 Asian American STEM students collected at three time points, the study found that both subscales demonstrated temporal stability and reliability, with partial invariance observed for one item in each subscale. These findings support the MMS-RS’s use in tracking changes in responses to the MMS over time, such as in evaluating interventions or policy impacts aimed at supporting Asian American STEM students.
