Abstract
The current methods for calculating the international poverty line (IPL) are flawed and hinder efforts to eradicate global poverty, according to a new statistical analysis. The IPL, produced by the World Bank, is currently set at $2.15 per day and is based on national poverty lines that vary across countries. The research argues that the IPL's reliance on purchasing power parities (PPPs) leads to skewed international comparisons of poverty. The authors suggest that a new approach based on a proper definition of absolute poverty should be adopted to better inform global policy on poverty. [Extracted from the article]
