Abstract
This article focuses on how colorism, defined as skin tone bias, adversely affects women of color in the workplace across multiple countries. It highlights that darker-skinned women face higher rates of discrimination, often without clear recourse, which can hinder their career advancement and lead to job dissatisfaction or departure. The article emphasizes the need for leaders to educate themselves about colorism, actively identify and disrupt its manifestations in hiring and team dynamics, and incorporate colorism awareness into broader diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Addressing colorism is presented as essential to fostering truly inclusive workplaces and dismantling systemic racial inequities.
