Abstract
This article introduces the In Focus section on cross-dressing and queer representations in Nordic cinema, highlighting how genre, gender, and cultural context inform contemporary and historical analyses. It discusses the increasing visibility of queer themes in Scandinavian film and television, citing examples such as *A Perfectly Normal Family* and *My Father Marianne*, which have received notable awards. The section also addresses gaps in comprehensive studies of Nordic cinema by incorporating recent research on queer and cross-dressing representations from both contemporary and historical perspectives. Two featured articles analyze Danish cross-dressing comedies from the 1920s–1950s and Benjamin Christensen's 1922 film *Häxan*, emphasizing ambiguity, intertextuality, and the intersection of feminist and auteur approaches.
