Abstract

The article focuses on a ceremonial procession in which Aztec priests prepared a blood sacrifice to appease the earth goddess Tlaltecuhtli during a time of famine and natural disturbances. Topics include the ritual's elaborate pageantry, the cultural and religious significance of human sacrifice, and the society's response to environmental and cosmic signs of divine displeasure.
