Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at City University of Hong Kong examined the relationship between self-esteem and depression among immigrant adolescents. The study utilized longitudinal data from the Children of Immigrants Longitudinal Study and found that different facets of self-esteem uniquely predicted depression over time, challenging traditional hypotheses on how self-esteem may affect mental health. The findings suggest that selective self-esteem interventions could enhance resilience and mental well-being in adolescents from diverse backgrounds.
