Abstract
The Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo (BPIR) is the only Black-owned traveling rodeo association in the world. Founded in 1984 by Lu Vason, the BPIR aims to provide a platform for Black cowboys and cowgirls to showcase their talents. Valeria Howard-Cunningham, the current president, has worked to reinvigorate the event and it has become a sold-out show for the past two years. The BPIR celebrates Black contributions to Western American culture and offers opportunities for young people to pursue careers in agriculture or animal science. The rodeo also partners with organizations like Louis Vuitton and Crown Royal to support and promote Black cowboy culture. [Extracted from the article]
