Abstract
The article emphasizes the urgent need for a mass social movement in the United States to counteract the rise of autocracy and defend democratic values. It draws parallels with historical uprisings in various countries, highlighting how citizens have successfully resisted authoritarian regimes through collective action. The text critiques the current political climate under the Trump administration, suggesting that a lack of organized resistance has allowed for the erosion of democratic norms. It argues that to effectively combat populism, a new narrative and a coalition of diverse social groups must emerge, focusing on shared values and the promotion of social mobility, while employing nonviolent strategies to mobilize public sentiment and create a compelling counter-narrative.
