Abstract
The article focuses on the evolving role of insurance adjusters amid widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in claims processing by 2026. While AI automates routine, repetitive tasks such as intake, summaries, and low-severity claim reviews, adjusters are increasingly tasked with interpreting AI-generated analyses and defending their judgments in high-severity bodily injury cases. This shift demands new skills in scrutinizing AI outputs, documenting decisions for legal scrutiny, and applying human judgment that AI cannot replicate. Additionally, the traditional training pathway for junior adjusters is disrupted, as automation removes exposure to simpler claims that build foundational experience. The article emphasizes that adjusters must adapt by deeply understanding AI tools, questioning their outputs, and focusing on decision-making under uncertainty to maintain effective claims handling.
