Abstract

The article focuses on the 19th-century U.S.-Mexico borderlands and the contract warfare and genocide that took place there against Native Americans. The author discusses bounty laws in Chihuahua, Durango, and Sonora, examines the influence Southern Apaches and Comanches asserted in these regions, and explores the racial, cultural, and political motivations behind this violence.
