Abstract
This article examines the experiences and needs of immigrant women and girls in Canada regarding sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education. Through three focus group discussions with ten immigrant women across Canada, the study identified four key themes: barriers to accessing SRH education (notably language and cultural challenges), limitations of mainstream SRH curricula (including Western-centric, heteronormative content and lack of cultural relevance), reliance on alternative information sources such as media, and features of more inclusive SRH education (emphasizing culturally sensitive content, diverse educators, safe spaces, and family involvement). The findings highlight the need for SRH curricula that reflect diverse cultural backgrounds and lived experiences to better support immigrant populations, recommending that provincial Ministers of Education use these insights to improve Canadian SRH educational programs.
