Abstract
The article focuses on the increasing rates of gender-based violence, particularly among young people in Australia, and critiques the government's response to this issue. It highlights the financial struggles faced by families leaving violent relationships and the lack of adequate support services for young boys who witness violence. The author emphasizes the shortcomings of Australia's National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children 2022–2032, arguing that its reliance on changing community attitudes and gender norms has not effectively addressed the root causes of violence. The article calls for a comprehensive approach to prevention that includes addressing substance abuse and childhood maltreatment, warning that without immediate and multi-faceted action, the cycle of violence will continue to escalate.
