Abstract
The article examines recent films and a documentary that explore diverse and often overlooked perspectives in the American Western genre. It highlights *Dead for a Dollar*, praised for its ethical characters and cinematography, and *The Harder They Fall*, a stylized Black Western featuring historical figures but criticized for historical inaccuracies and erasure of Indigenous presence. *Montford: The Chickasaw Rancher* focuses on Indigenous agency through the story of a Chickasaw cattleman but is noted for lacking depth in portraying Native experiences and complexities. Additionally, the documentary *Jews of the Wild West* reveals the significant roles Jewish individuals played in western settlement, emphasizing their contributions as traders, ranchers, and community members. The article discusses challenges in balancing myth and history in Western films, especially regarding representation of people of color and Indigenous peoples.
