Abstract

This article examines how artificial intelligence (AI) animation praxis, integrating traditional Carib Indigenous knowledge with contemporary technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and game engines (GE), functions as a bridge between Indigenous epistemologies and modern experiences. It highlights how AI animation challenges Western-centric perceptions, including the uncanny valley phenomenon, by foregrounding cultural and ethnic influences on perception and employing immersive narratives that reflect Carib nature-centric ontology and decolonial thought. The article also explores contributions from Afro-Carib and Global South artists who use AI-driven animation and interactive media to convey complex identities, histories, and ontologies, emphasizing the ontological turn that recognizes multiple, equally valid worlds. Through these interdisciplinary practices, AI animation emerges as a decolonial methodology that reshapes understandings of consciousness, embodiment, and reality beyond Eurocentric frameworks.
