Abstract

The article explores the historical context and contemporary implications of Zionism, particularly through the lens of Theodor Herzl's experiences and beliefs. It discusses how Herzl, initially hopeful for Jewish acceptance in European society, shifted towards advocating for a Jewish state in response to rising anti-Semitism. The text highlights recent violent attacks against Jews in the United States, suggesting that such acts of anti-Semitism inadvertently reinforce the necessity of Zionism for many Jews. It argues that the existence of Israel is largely a consequence of societal rejection of Jews, and posits that a truly effective anti-Zionist movement would focus on eliminating anti-Semitism to foster a welcoming environment for Jews outside of Israel.
