Abstract
The article examines how coworking spaces impact employee well-being by offering a socially fulfilling alternative to traditional office or home work environments. Based on a survey of 819 office workers, coworking sites were found to better support "relational job crafting," allowing employees to customize their social interactions with diverse professionals outside their own companies, which can reduce loneliness and improve satisfaction and performance. Coworking spaces provide benefits such as escape from unwanted coworker interactions, diverse networking opportunities, reduced evaluative pressures, and community-driven norms supported by community managers. Employers are encouraged to support coworking through education, stipends, logistical assistance, relational programming, and interpersonal skills training, while preserving employee flexibility to avoid replicating office dynamics. Overall, coworking spaces present a viable option for enhancing employee social health within hybrid work models.
