Abstract

The article focuses on a comparative study examining family functionality, social connectedness, antisocial behavior, and prosocial behavior among Turkish youth aged 18-25 living in Turkiye and European Union (EU) countries. Conducted by researchers at Pamukkale University, the study used structural equation modeling with data from 424 participants and found that European Turkish youth exhibited higher prosocial behavior and more balanced family cohesion and flexibility than their peers in Turkiye. Although family functionality scores were similar across groups, social connectedness and antisocial behavior partially mediated the relationship between family functionality and prosocial behavior, with migration status not significantly moderating these relationships. The findings suggest positive intergenerational effects of post-migration integration on family structure and socialization among fourth-generation European Turkish youth.
