Abstract
This review focuses on *Dynamic Embodiment℠ of the Sun Salutation: Pathways to Balancing the Chakras and the Neuroendocrine System*, a 2021 guidebook by Martha Eddy and Shakti Andrea Smith that explores the Sun Salutation yoga sequence through the lens of Dynamic Embodiment℠, a somatic movement practice. The book integrates yoga, somatic techniques, and Body-Mind Centering® principles to promote deeper mind–body awareness and aims to balance the chakras—energy fields within the body—and the neuroendocrine system, which includes the nervous and endocrine systems. It provides historical context, scientific discussion, and detailed somatic guidance for practicing the Sun Salutation, emphasizing experiential learning and sensory awareness. While the authors acknowledge the contested nature of chakra theory and the need for further research, they present their approach as a complementary practice rather than a substitute for medical advice. The book is positioned as a valuable resource for somatic practitioners and yoga enthusiasts interested in embodied movement and holistic health.
