SCHOOL LIBRARY SERVICES AND STUDENTS ACCESS TO INFORMATION RESOURCES IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN CALABAR MUNICIPALITY, CROSS RIVER STATE, NIGERIA.

Abstract

The article investigates the influence of school library services on students' access to information resources in selected secondary schools in Calabar Municipality, Cross River State, Nigeria. Using a survey design with 453 students sampled from six public secondary schools, the study focused on two main services: audio-visual services and current awareness services. Statistical analysis via one-way ANOVA revealed that both audio-visual services (such as slide/film projectors, internet lessons, and computers) and current awareness services significantly enhance students' access to information resources. The study concludes that these library services play a crucial role in improving students' utilization of information resources and recommends that school authorities improve accessibility and regular updating of audio-visual materials and promote library collections to align with global best practices.
