Abstract

The US Supreme Court has agreed to review a Texas law that mandates age verification for users of pornographic websites. The law has led to the shutdown of major site Pornhub in Texas and has been challenged by the Free Speech Coalition, which argues that it violates the constitutional rights of adults. The group claims that the law is ineffective as it exempts search engines and social media platforms that also contain sexual content. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has urged the Supreme Court to uphold the law, arguing that much of the content on porn sites is obscene and that adults do not have a constitutional right to access it. The court will hear arguments and make a ruling in the upcoming term starting in October. [Extracted from the article]
