Abstract
The US Marshals Service will not meet a deadline set by Senator Cynthia Lummis to disclose the number of Bitcoin assets it controls and its management plans. The agency is expected to provide an inventory of the different tranches of Bitcoin it holds in the coming weeks. The Bitcoin assets in question were seized during criminal investigations, including those from the Silk Road case, and have been auctioned off by the Marshals Service. Senator Lummis has proposed legislation for the US Treasury Department to acquire Bitcoin to create a national digital asset stockpile, with plans for public hearings on the matter.
