Abstract
This article examines the association between a country's level of gender equality, measured by the Gender Inequality Index (GII), and access to assisted reproductive technology (ART), as indicated by ART utilization rates across 69 countries from 2002 to 2014. The study finds that greater gender equality is significantly associated with higher ART utilization, even after controlling for human development using the Human Development Index (HDI). Key components driving this association include female parliamentary representation, maternal mortality ratio, and gross national income per capita. The findings suggest that gender equality and economic development jointly influence access to fertility care, highlighting the importance of reproductive rights within broader gender and health equity frameworks.
