Abstract

This article focuses on the development of a military burn care curriculum tailored for prolonged casualty care during Large Scale Combat Operations (LSCO) against peer or near-peer adversaries in contested multi-domain environments. Through a needs assessment involving 20 stakeholders across military burn care subject matter experts, course instructors, and regulatory administrators, 16 terminal learning objectives (TLOs) were identified, covering general burn care, management of specific injury types, procedural skills, and the integration of novel educational technologies. These TLOs form the foundation of the "Burns for Providers Program" (BP2), an adaptable training curriculum employing mobile app-based interactive simulations paired with biomimetic tabletop procedure trainers to teach cognitive knowledge, psychomotor skills, and resource management relevant to roles 2 and 3 military medical providers. The program aims to address gaps in current burn education by preparing providers for prolonged field care scenarios where rapid evacuation may not be feasible, with potential applicability to civilian burn care education in the future.
