Abstract

A recent study conducted at Tel Aviv University examined the factors influencing the plurilingual self-assessment of 160 French-speaking immigrant youth in Israeli schools. The research focused on demographic, linguistic, and social-psychological variables such as arrival age, exposure to languages, and parental aspirations. The findings suggest that individual characteristics, sociolinguistic context, and language-specific factors play a significant role in multilingual learning among immigrant students, emphasizing the importance of considering their perceived plurilingual repertoire in instruction and assessment. This peer-reviewed study sheds light on the complexity of language acquisition and self-assessment among immigrant youth, highlighting the interdependence of language skills and the need for context-specific approaches in education.
