Abstract
This article examines the impact of video evidence, such as dash and body-worn camera footage, on case outcomes and processing times in misdemeanor domestic violence cases within a large county in a southwestern U.S. state. Analyzing a random sample of 612 closed cases with and without video evidence, the study finds that cases involving video are more likely to result in guilty pleas and convictions, and are resolved more quickly. The research also considers additional factors including prior criminal history, victim–offender relationship, presence of other evidence, witnesses, and offender gender. These findings suggest that video evidence can strengthen the criminal justice response to domestic violence when used alongside other case information.
