Abstract

The article focuses on the dramatization of Puya Meithaba, the historical burning of sacred Meitei texts, as a means of reinforcing Indigenous identity and challenging dominant narratives in Manipur. Topics include the colonial and religious imposition of Hinduism under King Garibniwaz, the emergence of Meitei cultural revivalism, and the role of Shumang Leela theatre in reclaiming and preserving Manipuri heritage.
