Abstract
This article focuses on the development and evaluation of a process management program to prevent falls (PMPtPF) in hospitalized patients with neuropsychiatric disorders, based on the structure–process–outcome (SPO) quality evaluation model. Implemented at a tertiary neuropsychiatric hospital in China, the program included a structured training curriculum, a process quality evaluation checklist, and continuous improvements via the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle. Over a 36-month period, the incidence of inpatient falls decreased significantly from 0.199‰ to 0.101‰ per 1000 patient-days, with a 49% reduction in fall risk, and a notable decline in falls among high-risk patients. The study concludes that process quality management is feasible and effective in reducing falls in this patient population, emphasizing the importance of ongoing monitoring, multidisciplinary cooperation, and patient-family involvement in fall prevention strategies.
