Abstract

The article focuses on a study investigating the relationship between early-life famine exposure and the risk of depression and anxiety in adulthood, particularly among different ethnic groups in China. Conducted by researchers at Kunming Medical University, the study analyzed data from 18,376 individuals born between 1939 and 1978 who experienced famine during childhood and adolescence. Findings indicated that such exposure is linked to increased risks of depressive symptoms, especially among females and the Han ethnic group, while the Yi ethnic group showed heightened risks for both depression and anxiety. The research highlights the long-term mental health impacts of early nutritional deprivation, with variations observed based on gender and ethnicity. [Extracted from the article]
